West Brom target Ola Toivonen rejects Norwich
West Brom were today keeping tabs on target Ola Toivonen after the Sweden international rejected a move to Norwich.
Toivonen has turned down a switch to Carrow Road despite the Canaries agreeing a £4.5million fee with PSV Eindhoven for the forward.
That news will interest the Baggies, who are long-time admirers of the 27-year-old, but sources in Holland today claimed he could still stay in Eindhoven.
Toivonen has a year remaining on his PSV contract and had been threatened with exile to the club's reserves after refusing to open talks over a new deal.
However, the Dutch club appear to have softened their stance a little and are believed to be ready to include Toivonen in the squad for their pre-season tour of Germany, which starts next week.
The PSV hierarchy are considering offering Toivonen a one-year extension to his current deal, although the player still seems inclined to run down his current contract and leave next summer on a free transfer.
West Brom are looking for more firepower after signing Nicolas Anelka on a free transfer next season but former Wigan forward Franco Di Santo will not be joining.
The ex-Chelsea trainee tweeted last night, confirming he is close to finalising a deal with a club. But West Brom, who held talks with the 24-year-old free agent earlier in the summer, have decided to look elsewhere.
They retain an interest in former Watford forward Matej Vydra, who is keen to return for a second season on loan from Udinese.
But reports in Italy now claim the 21-year-old might remain with his parent club.
