Steven Reid on Hodgson's reunion
Albion defender Steven Reid has insisted the Baggies' clash with Liverpool is not about gaining revenge for boss Roy Hodgson.
Albion defender Steven Reid has insisted the Baggies' clash with Liverpool is not about gaining revenge for boss Roy Hodgson.
The head coach comes face to face with the Reds tomorrow, just 84 days after he was sacked from the Anfield manager's job.
But Reid is adamant boosting Albion's Premier League survival chances is more important than helping Hodgson defeat his ex-employers.
The right-back said: "There is no getting away from it in the build-up and I'm sure there will be a 'Liverpool factor' with him coming up against his old team. But there are eight cup finals for us now and this is one of them.
"If we win it won't be about the manager, it will be for the club and us getting three points towards the target we need to stay in the league.
"We will be doing it for ourselves, the manager and the club and it's all about survival, not about former clubs.
"There is no fear there. We feel it's a game we can get a result from and every game has to be like that from now until the end of the season.
"On our day we feel we can beat anyone in the division so there is no fear. We're on a decent run and we feel we can continue that.
"Things didn't go for the gaffer at Liverpool but, more often than not, he gets the best out of his players."
Albion will again be looking to beat their Reds hoodoo, which has seen them lose all nine Premier League meetings with the Merseyside club without scoring a goal.
But Reid said: "It's a negative statistic and it's not one we will be thinking about before the game.
"Before the Stoke game we had a terrible record there but we battled hard and got a point. We won't be looking at stats - just the result.
"These records are there to be broken and Saturday would be a good time to start."
