Albion captain Scott Carson has been dropped for Saturday's clash with Blackpool.

Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo confirmed this afternoon that summer signing Boaz Myhill will play in goal against the Seasiders at The Hawthorns.

The decision follows a poor run of form for Carson, culminating in a howler in the 3-0 defeat at Fulham last week.

It is the first time Carson has been dropped since signing for the Baggies from Liverpool for £3.25m two-and-a-half years ago.

Di Matteo said: "I have decided to give Boaz an opportunity on Saturday.

"I thought he did well against Reading in the FA Cup and he will be in goal at the weekend.

"Scott is very disappointed and it is difficult because he is the club captain and it is the first time he has been left out.

"But it is something he needs to get through and he has to get his head down and work his way up again.

"It was a difficult decision but I thought I needed to give Boaz a chance. He has worked hard in training and did well in the game."

Meanwhile, Peter Odemwingie could face the Tangerines after returning to training today following an ankle injury.

"He has joined in today but he is still a doubt because he has only done a little bit of training," added Di Matteo.

"We will have to see how he is tomorrow and whether there is any reaction."
