Walsall midfielder Florent Cuvelier ruled out until April with calf injury
Walsall midfielder Florent Cuvelier has been ruled out of action for up to six weeks.
The midfielder suffered a calf injury at Scunthorpe last week which kept him out of Saturday's victory over Peterborough. However, Saddlers boss Jon Whitney says there is no long-term damage done and he is hopeful of having the Belgian back by the beginning of April.
Cuvelier had found form in recent weeks after a stop-start first half of the season which saw him suffer an ankle injury and a painful ear infection.
The 24-year-old caught his studs in the turf in the goalless draw at Scunthorpe and a scan revealed a grade two strain of his calf muscle.
The boss said: "There are no long term problems. He has got a grade two calf strain. He will be between four and six weeks so we're looking at the beginning of April for Flo.
"It's not as bad as we were fearing after the first few days and when we saw how much pain he was in.
"Calf strains go from grade one to grade three depending on how much muscle fibres are involved. Grade three is the most serious kind but it's grade two.
"Four to six weeks isn't great news but it could have been worse, it could have affected his Achilles. He now has to get himself ready for the run in."
There is some good news for Saddlers after Whitney revealed midfielder Isaiah Osbourne should be fine for the trip to Wimbledon at the weekend.
Osbourne came off after an hour of the Peterborough match after suffering a knock to his knee earlier in the week.
"He was struggling from Scunthorpe," added Whitney. "He only trained on Friday, he did a little bit so we could see how he was.
"He had quite a bit of swelling on it until Friday but the staff here worked wonders to get him ready.
"We knew he would tire. But then you have got George Dobson to come in and I thought he came on and showed some great energy."
