Joe Edwards: Walsall are 'confident but not complacent'

Joe Edwards insists Walsall are 'confident but not complacent' heading into tomorrow's clash with Northampton.

The Cobblers head to the Banks's Stadium having lost five of their last six games – with their only victory coming against rock-bottom Coventry last weekend.

In contrast, Jon Whitney's side enter the fixture in impressive form after securing home wins against Sheffield United and Bristol Rovers before then picking up solid away points at Bury and Millwall.

But while Walsall seem to have turned a corner since the turn of the year, Edwards says they know they still have a lot to improve on.

"We're looking forward to the game – is a lot of confidence at the moment," the former Yeovil man said.

"We are going into every game with a lot more belief.

"And it's going to be good to back at home because we are playing well there and scoring goals.

"We feel confident that we can win every game or at the very least take a point.

"We're on a good run, it's a run we want to keep going, but we won't get complacent.

"We know we haven't cracked it and we still have a lot of hard work to do but we have got a good base to build on and are determined to keep improving."

While Walsall and Millwall played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw at The Den on Wednesday, the Saddlers managed to prevent their in-form opponents from having a single shot on target.

And Edwards admitted all the players were delighted to keep their first clean-sheet of 2017.

"For a neutral, it wasn't the best game to watch," the 26-year-old said.

"But when you go to places like The Den you have got to stand and do the hard stuff first and I thought we did that really well,"

"It's was important to get a clean sheet. I thought Eoghan O'Connell was brilliant along with the rest of the back five.

"But we have conceded a few goals on this good run that we've been on.

"We wanted to shore it up a little bit so to go to Millwall and face no shots on target, it's a big plus for us.

"We've got a really solid shape and hopefully we can now back it up with another good performance at home."
