The 20-year-old centre-back has played every minute in League One for the Saddlers since joining on loan from Villa in August.

Toner is due to return to Villa Park in January. But the Republic of Ireland youth international has now confirmed he would like to remain at the Banks's to continue his development.

"If I can I'd like to stay on and get a full season in League One," he said. "It's a great team spirit here. I was one of the later boys to come in but everyone is so friendly and they all came up to me and welcomed me in."

Toner's loan switch coincided with signing a new two-year deal at Villa, where he made four Premier League appearances at the end of last season.

"It is 100 per cent better for me than playing in the under-21 league," he said.

Walsall have confirmed their clash at MK Dons next Saturday will go ahead despite international call-ups for Liam Kinsella and Andreas Makris.
