Kieron Morris keen to repay Walsall's faith in him

After initially signing a new contract back in May, the 22-year-old agreed another improved deal earlier this month that will keep him at the Banks's Stadium until 2019.

Morris was rewarded for his impressive start to the 2016/17 campaign which has seen him become a mainstay in Jon Whitney's side.

But after being sent on on loan to non-league Wrexham in January 2015, the winger insists he is taking nothing granted.

"It's great having the contract sorted and to know I've got an extra year," he said.

"I've got more games, scored more goals, but I'm determined to keep improving.

"When I was on loan at Wrexham 18 months ago, I was struggling a bit knowing that I was going to be out of contract in six months' time.

"It was always at the back of my mind.

"But because I did so well there, I got recalled and that helped get my confidence back up.

"Ever since being recalled I wanted to prove myself. Luckily the old gaffer (Dean Smith) gave me a chance .

"And though I was in

and out of the line-up all last season, it was still pleasing to make 42 appearances.

"I've started with more goals this year and hopefully I can get to double figures to reward the club's faith."

Morris joined Walsall when he was a teenager but revealed he was actually recommended to the club by Premier League giants Manchester United.

"I went up for a couple of months to Manchester United during the half-terms," the Hereford-born the young winger said.

"For them to not offer me a contract after that was disappointing – everyone wants to be associated with a club like that.

"But it worked out because in turn they put me in contact with Walsall."
