Walsall midfielder Maz Kouhyar injury not as bad as first feared
Walsall midfielder Maz Kouhyar could be back in as little as six weeks after it was revealed his knee injury was not as bad as first feared.
The Afghanistan-born teenager underwent an operation on Friday that was expected to rule him out for three months, but he may now make it back in half that time.
Having signed his first professional deal at the Banks's in February, Kouhyar went on to make six appearances this season – the most recent as a substitute in the 2-1 victory over Millwall on October 1.
Boss Jon Whitney said: "He had an operation on his knee on Friday. We are looking at six to eight weeks before he is back playing but that is good news because it could have been an injury that kept him out for three months.
"There is not too much damage, which is great news for Maz's career in the future.
"He is good spirits. We see it as a positive, we know he had got a few imbalances he needs to do but he will get that done with the medical team over the next few weeks.
"You have got to take injuries as a positive and work on other things which he will do. He will come back in two months a stronger player."
