Simeon Jackson: The best is yet to come from me and Walsall

The 29-year-old grabbed a brace on Saturday to ensure the Saddlers began the new League One campaign with victory over Wimbledon.

Tonight, Jon Whitney's side are back in action as they prepare to host Yeovil in the League Cup.

Jackson's brace against The Dons was his first in more than five years.

And now the striker is targeting more goals after making a flying start to his Walsall career.

"Wimbledon was a great way to start the season," he said. "For me to get a couple of goals on my debut, at home as well, that was an amazing feeling.

"As a striker it's great to come flying out the traps.

"It was the first game and while I feel fit, I don't think you really start to feel sharp until you've played a few games.

"So I was delighted. I don't want to limit myself with targets but I want to get stronger and score as many goals as I can."

Jackson believes Walsall can take a host of positives from the Wimbledon clash into tonight's game with Yeovil and beyond.

"The priority was to get three points on the board and put in a good performance," he said.

"But Wimbledon were a direct team with a good aerial presence and we coped with that really well.

"That was the biggest positive. But we also got our passing game going at times.

"We had to find a nice balance and I think we did that. We can take loads of positives from the performance."

Jackson, was joined up front on Saturday by Amadou Bakayoko who produced an impressive cameo from the bench.

And the Canadian international admitted he has been hugely impressed with the 20-year-old who netted four times in pre-season.

"He (Bakayoko) has done really well," Jackson added.

"He got his goals in pre-season and now he wants to take into League One.

"He is young but has a lot of potential. He has got a big, strong presence and is a big talent with a bright future."
