Walsall's Romaine Sawyers up for award

Walsall forward Romaine Sawyers has been nominated for the League One Player of the Year Award.moreThe 24-year-old playmaker has been an integral part of the Saddlers team which has spent the season battling for promotion, scoring six goals in 49 appearances.

Sawyers has been short-listed alongside Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack and Swindon striker Nicky Ajose.

The winner will be named this Sunday at the Football League's awards ceremony in Manchester.

The award has been voted for by the manager of every club in League One, with each asked to list their top five players from this season in order, with the votes added up and the overall top three forming the shortlist.

Shaun Harvey, chief executive of the Football League, said: "There's no shortage of talent in Sky Bet League 1 and this shortlist includes three players who have performed fantastically throughout the campaign.

"We wish them the very best of luck for Sunday evening's awards ceremony."
