Walsall re-sign striker Jordy Hiwula

The 21-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful spell at the Banks's Stadium last season - scoring nine goals in 19 games following a temporary switch from Manchester City.

He was snapped up by Championship outfit Huddersfield in the summer for an undisclosed fee before being loaned to League One outfit Wigan.

Hiwula scored six goals in 17 appearances for the Latics who, it is understood, wanted to extend his stay at DW Stadium.

But the talented forward has instead opted to rejoin the Saddlers to help with their promotion push.

"The first time I came here I really enjoyed it," Hiwula said.

"I played a lot of games, scored a lot of goals and I felt like I did really well.

"It's good that I've got another chance to come back and show what I can do.

"I still speak to a few of the players and they've told me that everything at the club is pretty much the same.

"When I found out Walsall were interested in bringing me back here, it was hard to say no.

"It's very good to be back."

Hiwula, who scored just minutes into his first Saddlers debut against Doncaster, goes straight into Sean O'Driscoll's squad for tomorrow's visit of Barnsley.

The managerless Tykes have have won eight of their last 10 games.

And Hiwula admits he is hoping for another prolific spell in Walsall red.

"I haven't set myself any personal targets, he added.

"I just want to come here and score some goals to help the team."

Meanwhile, O'Driscoll says the third placed Saddlers are choosing to focus on themselves instead of Burton and Wigan who currently occupy the automatic promotion spots in League One.

Walsall currently sit four point behind Gary Caldwell's Latics but have the benefit of a game in hand.

"We are not chasing anybody - we just want to win every game we play," O'Driscoll said.

"It is pointless looking at anyone else.

"Results are sometimes in the lap of the gods. Performances are as much as you can control in football so that is what our focus is."
