The Saddlers saw a seven-game unbeaten run come to an abrupt halt on Saturday after Rochdale left the Banks's with a 3-0 win.

Both O'Driscoll and his predecessor Dean Smith have built their success in the game by playing attacking, possession-based football.

But the new head coach believes it's important to have other options.

"What we can't be is too predictable," O'Driscoll said. "Teams can't think we are always going to try and pass through midfield and pass it out from the back.

"We have got to be a little more unpredictable than that but it will take time.

"Teams are going to come now and look at video of the Rochdale game and think this is how to play against Walsall. That is what I'd be doing if I was in another manager's shoes.

"We have to conscious of that and try and be a little bit better."

One of the smallest sides in the division, O'Driscoll refused to rule out potentially adding more height to the team.

"I think sometimes when we are forced to kick it long, you are not going to gamble anyone in behind." he said.

"Even with the best will in the world, a 5ft 10in player isn't going to win a header against someone who is 6ft 3in or even taller."

"It's simple things but you need quality. We can fill a team with 6ft giants but if they can't pass the ball you have no chance."

Meanwhile, O'Driscoll spoke to Manchester City yesterday as he works to extend the loan of youngster George Evans.

The midfielder, who has four goals in 14 appearances, sees his temporary switch expire after Saturday's FA Cup clash with Brentford.

"I wanted to get the Rochdale game out of the way before speaking to Manchester City to see where we stand," O'Driscoll added.
