The prize of taking on Dean Smith's Brentford awaits the winner of the second-round clash with the two sides initially sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Proact Stadium.

Walsall saw their League One fixture with Fleetwood postponed on Saturday after the pitch at Highbury Stadium became waterlogged due to heavy rain.

And Forde, who was set to start the match in Lancashire, revealed all the players were disappointed not to play.

"It was very frustrating at Fleetwood because the whole team was raring to go," the Irishman said. "To be told the game was off was disappointing because we wanted to play.

"Fortunately we've got the game tomorrow which we were able to quickly switch our focus to.

"They're a decent team Chesterfield and I think it's about time we beat them.

"A draw was probably a fair result last time but they beat us at the Banks's earlier in the season in a game we should have won."

With Smith opting to leave the Saddlers for Brentford two weeks ago, Forde admits the prospect of facing their former manager is a huge incentive for Walsall's players.

"We really want to get a win because Brentford away in the next round will be a really good game," the 22-year-old said. "The circumstances of coming up against the old gaffer and Richard O'Kelly make it a bit more special. It would be a weird day but everybody would like it to happen."

Forde also revealed caretaker managers Jon Whitney, John Ward and Neil Cutler have kept most things the same since Smith moved on with the whole squad determined their success this season will continue.

"They're keeping almost everything the same," Forde added. "They are all very professional in what they do.

"They're doing really well with us so far and we're going to stick together and keep going."
