The Saddlers have been accused over the past few seasons of not scoring enough from set-plays.

But, against Crewe on Saturday, they took a third-minute lead when Tom Bradshaw powerfully headed home Forde's whipped-in corner.

And the Irish wide man confirmed the goal was no fluke, saying: "We have been working hard on corners. It's a big bonus if you can score from set pieces.

"If we can get better at it that has to help us because in play we always create chances. Just before we took the lead, I was walking over and I said to Tom go front post. Luckily, it worked.

"But we had an awful lot of corners and I think at times we could have attacked them better. We could have scored two or three from set pieces."

Despite creating 21 chances and forcing 14 corners the Saddlers had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Railwaymen.

That result meant they stayed second in League One but Forde, while happy with the overall performance, felt they should have won the game comfortably.

He said: "I just don't know how we ended up drawing. We definitely deserved to win. On another day it would have been four or five-nil. Easily."

The 21-year-old was pleased to be back in Dean Smith's starting line-up after often finding himself on the bench this season.

He said: "I was was delighted to back in the side. I got an assist from the corner but I was disappointed I didn't score because I had a few chances.

"I was pleased with my performance but more pleased because it was a good team performance."

Smith was also pleased with Forde's display, the Saddlers boss adding: "I thought he did really well. He was excellent."
