It was announced yesterday the 26-year-old agreed a three-year deal with League One Latics, 24 hours after it was confirmed he would not be returning to the Banks's.

But the Saddlers boss is confident of finding the suitable candidate after revealing he has a list of potential targets.

Smith said: "We want someone to come in and compete with Craig. The person we bring in will have experience of playing league football.

"The calibre of keeper we are looking at is very high.

"Richard will be missed because he did very well. But we would like to think some of that was down to the work we did with him."

Smith added: "It's disappointing because we have done an awful lot of work with him," said the manager.

"He came to us, initially on trial, and did very well."
