Andy Halliday today returned to Middlesbrough after Walsall boss Dean Smith opted not to keep him.
The Saddlers decided not to renew the winger's loan spell after it expired after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
He started just three games since signing in November – making eight appearances overall – and Smith thanked Halliday for his efforts.
"Andy will go back to Middlesbrough and go back with our best wishes," he said. "It took him a couple of weeks to find his fitness and get to the tempo of our game.
"He's got better and better as he's gone on but unfortunately he hasn't managed to get into the team. He's still been a useful acquisition for us."
