O'Donnell: Walsall can still reach the play-offs
Goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell insists the League One play-offs remain a realistic aim for Walsall this season.
The gap between the Saddlers and the top six is back down to five points after Tuesday night's 1-0 win at Yeovil, in which O'Donnell starred by saving a penalty.
And the 26-year-old shot-stopper insists players have not given up hope of catching the teams above them.
He said: "We believe it is realistic. We still have 12 games left in the league so there are a lot of points left to be played for.
"It is that tight, anyone in or around us will think with a decent run they can be up there – I have not seen a league like this for a long time.
"Any of 10 teams, will be thinking they can get in. Why can't it be us?
"We are going to keep thinking we can get there. We have cut it back down to five points now, we are looking up and hopefully the win at Yeovil can be the start of a run for us."
Despite victory in Somerset snapping a four-game winless run, the Saddlers remain 16th in a heavily congested League One table ahead of Saturday's trip to Barnsley.
The Tykes sit three points ahead after a four-game winning streak but O'Donnell is under no illusions as to how tough the game will be.
He said: "We know it is going to be a tough game but one we know we are more than capable of winning."
Currently, just eight points separate Doncaster in sixth from Notts County in 18th.
And O'Donnell added: "I think it shows the quality of the league more than anything, that anyone can beat anyone else on the day.
"It's a chance for any of 10 teams to just take that last place in the play-offs, because you are looking at the top five and feel they are quite secure now."
