Richard O'Donnell pen save: research the key
Walsall keeper Richard O'Donnell has revealed the game of double bluff behind his Yeovil penalty heroics.
The keeper helped ensure the Saddlers returned from Somerset with a 1-0 win when he saved Adam Morgan's 72nd minute spot-kick.
And he later revealed the pre-game planning which allowed him to predict where the Glovers striker would place his attempt.
"We were expecting him to take the penalty because he took the last one here, which he went the keeper's right with," said O'Donnell.
"We figured he would know we had looked at that, so that is why I decided to go the other way. "Luckily it proved to be correct and I was just happy to keep it out."
The save meant Jordy Hiwula's 32nd minute strike was enough to give the Saddlers victory.
And O'Donnell expressed sympathy with opposite number Scott Loach, who was at fault for the goal.
Loach, who had only joined the Glovers on emergency loan 24 hours previously, also pulled off a string of fine saves to keep his team in the game and saved Tom Bradshaw's first half penalty.
O'Donnell said: "That is the life of a goalkeeper, Scott has had a great game.
"I didn't really see much of the goal, it is hard looking from the other end.
"We could have come in at half-time four or five up if it wasn't for him. He can take a lot of credit from that."
