James Chambers focused on Walsall's task

James Chambers today urged Walsall to remain focused on the task in hand when they take their shot at Wembley.

The veteran believes it's vital the Saddlers play the game and not the occasion when Preston visit the Banks's Stadium on Tuesday, for the second leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final.

Walsall hold a 2-0 lead from the first leg and are set to be roared on by a capacity crowd.

But defender Chambers said: "It is a game of football. I understand the importance to a lot of people and it is the same for me and the other players.

"But we have to see it as a game of football, the job we do, and go out and do a professional job.

"If we do that and perform how we are capable of performing, the result will hopefully follow."

Despite urging caution, Chambers concedes there will be more excitement in the dressing room as the Saddlers look to secure a first ever trip to the home of English football.

"I am excited," said the 34-year-old. "It is a big game for us and them.

"I would imagine we will be favourites, being 2-0 up, but they are a very good side with some very good players and experience in the team. We know we will have to be at our best to keep them out.

"It's exciting but at the same time we have to make sure we put on a professional performance if we want to win it.

"It's always good when you play in front of large crowds. This will be one of the biggest gates we have had for years.

"The fans can play their part and they will know we want them behind us. They can play a massive part as well.

"They will be key, just as our part on the pitch will be too."

There was movement out of the Banks's yesterday as full-back Mal Benning joined York City on a month-long loan.

Benning has appeared 19 times for the Saddlers this season but most of those have been off the bench, with his last start coming in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Rochdale in October.
