Walsall loanee wants Wembley as he stays

Influential midfielder Michael Cain immediately set his sights on Wembley after extending his Walsall stay to the end of the season.

The Saddlers received a huge boost after reaching an agreement with Leicester City to keep the 20-year-old on board.

Cain has proved a big hit since joining in October, initially on a month-long emergency loan. Yesterday was the third time his stay has been extended.

He's scored three goals in 19 appearances and is keen to help the Saddlers shoot down Preston in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final next Tuesday.

They take a 2-0 lead into the match after a fine win at Deepdale earlier this month, with Cain saying: "It would be a great achievement if we can go on and finish the job off.

"It's going to be a great occasion with a sell-out crowd and superb atmosphere. These are the type of games that you want to be involved in.

"To play my part in helping this club get to Wembley for the first time would be superb, but we know that there is a lot of hard work still ahead for us in the tie."

Keeping Cain became imperative for the Saddlers in the light of Sam Mantom's continued absence.

Last year's Player of the Season still has no timescale for his return from a knee injury which has restricted him to just four substitute appearances all term.

Cain has proved an able replacement alongside skipper Adam Chambers in the centre of midfield.

Smith said: "I am really pleased that Leicester City have agreed to let Michael stay with us for the rest of the season.

"He has developed extremely well during his time with us and fitted in to how we do things here.

"He's a talented lad with a fantastic attitude and hopefully his progress will continue during the months ahead.

"It's been a big loss losing Sam Mantom to injury, but Michael has come in and done really well."
