Bradshaw ready to return for Saddlers

Struggling Walsall today received a huge boost as top scorer Tom Bradshaw was declared fit for Saturday's crunch clash at home to Chesterfield.

The 22-year-old summer signing from Shrewsbury, who has hit five goals this season, has missed the last three league games with a hamstring injury.

Without him the Saddlers have not picked up a single point and failed to score in their last two outings, including Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Crawley.

"Tom will be available for selection on Saturday, which is big for us," said Smith.

"You would have thought he would have scored one on Tuesday night at Crawley had he been playing."

With Bradshaw back fit Smith has confirmed that, for now, Craig Fagan is merely training with the club to maintain his fitness.

The 31-year-old former Blues, Hull and Derby striker has been without a club since leaving Gillingham in the summer and was a surprise inclusion in the Saddlers reserve side which won 2-0 at Port Vale yesterday.

"I got a phone call from Craig asking if he could come in and train with us because he lives locally," said Smith.

"It gives him a chance to do a couple of week's worth of work with us and, if he takes our breath away, who knows?

"There is no money involved, he is a good lad and I have known him a while."

In total, Fagan has scored 59 career goals in more than 300 senior appearances. He scored twice in 18 appearances for the Gills last year after joining in November.

Sam Mantom also played an hour in yesterday's reserve game as he continued his comeback from a knee injury.

The 22-year-old is likely to feature in the squad again against Chesterfield.
