Walsall's consistency key to Adam Chambers
Captain Adam Chambers today admitted Walsall must shake their inconsistency if they are to climb the League One table.
The veteran midfielder acknowledges that a good run of performances is required from the Saddlers.
He has targeted the upcoming back-to-back home games against Doncaster and early season pace-setters Bristol City as the ideal place to start.
Dean Smith's side are currently 20th in the table, having picked up just eight points from their opening nine matches and Chambers believes it's time they found some momentum.
He said: "We need something to build on. It is the performances we are always looking at, you can't control results.
"When you are in a consistent run of performances, you tend to pick up a lot of points. We are focused on putting in good performances and we need to start doing that now.
"We have been inconsistent so far, for one reason and another.
"Without wishing to make excuses, we have been changing the team from game to game through injury, but we really need to start putting some consistent performances in.
"If we do, I'm sure the points will follow."
Chambers believes the return of top scorer Tom Bradshaw for the clash with Doncaster will be a huge boost, to a team which has been ravaged by injuries.
Long-term absentees James Chambers, Ben Purkiss, Jordan Cook and Sam Mantom are also back in training as the Saddlers hunt their second straight home victory, after the 3-1 success over Preston earlier this month.
The skipper added: "I think we need to start picking up points at home. The last home game was a good performance against Preston. That is what we are looking for now."
