Tom Bradshaw: Walsall's players are hurting

Striker Tom Bradshaw insists win-less Walsall's players are "hurting" and determined to right the wrongs of their disappointing start to the League One season.

Bradshaw, who scored in the 2-1 defeat at Scunthorpe on Saturday, wants his goals to start sparking Saddlers victories.

The ex-Shrewsbury Town man is the only player to hit the net for Walsall so far this campaign – three goals in five games have yielded three draws and two defeats.

But the impressive tally means little to the former Wales youth international, with Dean Smith's men languishing in the relegation zone.

"It's nice to get a goal but it counts for nothing," said 22-year-old Bradshaw.

"Ultimately we lost 2-1 but it didn't matter if it was 2-0 or 3-0, the only thing that matters is we lost the match.

"We are all hurting. It is not like we are throwing the towel in. We know it is vital we start picking up wins.

"We are just happy we have another chance on Saturday to right these wrongs."

Emotions are running high ahead of a crunch home clash against fellow strugglers Colchester United, who are one place below the Saddlers.

The U's had a dugout reshuffle yesterday. Joe Dunne left the club by mutual consent after two years in charge. His ex-assistant, former Albion and Aston Villa midfielder Mark Kinsella, also departed.

Former Ipswich and Wrexham defender Tony Humes has been promoted from the youth team helm to first-team duties.

Walsall's focus, meanwhile, is on their issues.

"A lot of the time in these games it is not one issue which causes a loss, it is normally several," said Bradshaw.

"We need to analyse it. We will be looking through the game and seeing where things are going wrong."
