The 32-year-old former Sheffield United and Watford forward had been with the Saddlers for much of pre-season.

However, manager Dean Smith has decided not to offer him a deal.

Webber failed to find the net in six pre-season appearances and Smith admitted this was the main factor in his decision.

He said: "I met up with Danny yesterday and told him there was no contract for him.

"He has come in and is a really good lad, a great character around the place with a lot of experience and he really knows how to play the game and link it up.

"Unfortunately, it did not come with the currency of goals in his performances.

"I spoke to him about that and I wish him well. He came in and gave it his best shot and it just wasn't to be."

The Saddlers are continuing to talk with 24-year-old French striker Mathieu Manset ahead of Saturday's League One opener at Port Vale.
