The 21-year-old Chelsea forward has spent the season on loan at the Banks's and has conceded he is likely to move on from the Premier League giants when his contract expires in the summer.

Lalkovic has spoken openly on several occasions about how he has enjoyed life with the Saddlers and has now admitted he would be keen on a permanent move, if they are playing at a higher level next term.

Walsall are currently seventh in League One, still in with a shout of a play-off place.

"I think it will be time to leave Chelsea as I want to have regular football but we will see what happens," he said.

"I guess I want to move somewhere and settle down, I'm not shutting the door on Chelsea but I think I will move on.

"Hopefully something will happen and maybe I will be a player with Walsall in the Championship.

"If we go up to the Championship I will definitely stay."

Lalkovic, a Slovakian under-21 international, has scored five goals for the Saddlers this season and after recovering from an inconsistent start has been a regular feature of the side in recent months.

But he admits to being mystified by the recent goal drought which has seen them lose ground in the play-off race.

Since thrashing Notts County 5-1 last month, the Saddlers have scored just twice in four league games, picking up two points. They head to Preston tomorrow five points behind sixth-placed Peterborough and in need of a result to get back on track.

"You can't really explain it – every game is different," he said. "Sometimes it's your day and I think it was our day against Notts County. But not many teams will often score five goals – we're not Man City or Barcelona!"

He added: "At the moment every game is a big game because we need the points.

"There are still many points to play for and we have to take it game by game. What happens, happens but I still think we can do something even though we had a bit of a slip up.

"We have tough games coming up but, as players, you want to play in those games."
