The 28-year-old has still to decide his future – the third Saddlers front man to leave the club dangling ahead of the forthcoming League One campaign.

But manager Dean Smith is still keeping the door open to a popular figure in last season's team and will have further talks with Westcarr in the hope of making a breakthrough.

Smith said: "I made him an offer at the end of last season, which he declined. He wanted to keep his options open. His contract expired on May 1, so he has not been paid for the summer. I've since spoken to him and will speak to him over the next few days."

Smith would be happy to re-engage Westcarr, adding: "He's a likeable lad.

"He can certainly lead the line and he can play off the front man – he's got a few strings to his bow."
