Defender James Chambers set to sign new deal at Walsall FC
Defender James Chambers says he is likely to sign a new deal and stay at Walsall for next season.
The right-back, who made 24 appearances for the Saddlers this term, is one of several players mulling over a new contract offer.
Chambers enjoyed a career revival last season and, while the 32-year-old has another two weeks to make up his mind, he is keen on prolonging his stay at the Banks's Stadium.
Chambers said: "I would like to stay, I know it's easy to say now.
"The management and the coaching staff are really good and the players we have are good in terms of what Walsall need for next season.
"It's local and I enjoy it here, so all being well, things will progress and it will all be sorted out soon.
"But in football you never know what is going to happen until you sign on that dotted line."
Chambers, whose midfielder brother Adam is also deciding whether to sign a new deal along with key strike duo Will Grigg and Febian Brandy, had been training with the Saddlers before originally signing on non-contract terms last August in order to play in the opening day 3-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
Despite injury limiting his appearances in the early part of the campaign, Chambers was a regular during the club's post-Christmas surge up the League One table.
And the former Watford and Doncaster player admits the past few months have been a relief after his career stalled following a series of injuries.
He said: "It's just nice to have been playing. I've had a couple of years where injuries have kept me out.
"It's been nice to enjoy the season. For me the back end of the season was great, I was back playing and obviously playing in the same team as my brother is great.
"Playing in a team which has spirit and belief is great as well.
"I'm just looking now to next season and pushing on looking to get a full season under my belt.
"When you realise the ability that is here and you train with these players day in, day out, it is no surprise we finished where we did in the league."
