Dean Smith wants answers on Walsall deal offers

Walsall manager Dean Smith today warned the players mulling over new contracts to make up their minds sooner rather than later.

The Saddlers boss is waiting to hear from several players who were offered new deals last week, including 20-goal striker Will Grigg.

Under league regulations, the players have a month to make a decision after receiving a new contract offer.

But Smith has warned the hold-outs he won't be hanging around and has advised them to make their minds up quickly – or risk being replaced.

The manager revealed the Saddlers have not been short of enquiries from interested players following a ninth-placed finish in League One.

Smith said: "The players we have offered new deals to have four weeks before they have to give a definite answer.

"If they don't decide to take it, I have told the players I may have other options who are cheaper.

"If they take their time, they may find I have brought someone else in at their position.

"It's in their best interests to make up their mind as soon as they can."
