No added pressure on Walsall's top striker

Manager Dean Smith insists there is no added pressure on Tom Bradshaw as Walsall's top scorer prepares to return against Fleetwood Town.

The 16-goal striker is in line to start tomorrow's game at the Banks's after recovering from his latest hamstring injury.

With the 23-year-old sidelined, the Saddlers have struggled for goals and have failed to find the net in their last four games.

But Smith claims that does not mean the onus is on Bradshaw to score the goals which will fire them to safety.

He said: "There is pressure on everyone's shoulders all the time. Tom has just got to go out and play his normal game, should he be selected. The other players are the same. There is no added pressure on him.

"It probably gives everybody a boost knowing he is fit and available because we know what he has done."

Bradshaw's stellar first season at the Banks's has been blighted by a series of hamstring niggles which has seen him miss nearly half of the club's league games.

In that respect, his goal haul is even more impressive.

Smith said: "I think he has doubled his tally of career goals already at this place. It has been very good.

"It is great to have him back and available and hopefully the rest he has had and the recovery will see him through to the end of the season."

Despite his team being just two points above the League One drop zone with six games to go, Smith is determined to focus on the positives.

He said: "You either look at all those positives or you go on social media and read a load of tweets by people who have an opinion and believe you are in the position you are in - I'm the former."
