Kris Taylor went close to opening the scoring with a superbly timed right-footed volley from just outside the box but Peter Jameson did well to hold the effort.

The Quakers went even closer the grabbing the first goal when captain Leon Scott smashed a volley against the outside of the post.

Richard Sneekes' side managed to take the lead against the Evo-Stik Premier champions from a set-piece when Jack Duggan headed Taylor's corner back across goal and Gavin Caines nodded past Jameson from close range.

Darlington almost equalised just after half-time when Stephen Thompson went through one on one but Kieran Preston did well to save his effort.

Nathan Cartman lobbed just wide moments later as the visitors pressed but were unable to find a way through a resolute home defence as the Pics finished in 10th.
