"Still a few months to go" - Walsall issue injury update on forgotten man Elicha Ahui

The defender immediately re-joined the Drogs on a year-long loan before his season was curtailed by an ACL injury. 

He has been out of action since May last year and Sadler has revealed he still has a "few months" of recovery left. 

Ahui won't feature for Walsall this season

"Elicha with us now - unfortunately he has taken his injury, so it has not quite worked out yet," Sadler said. 

"He has still got a bit of time. He won't affect things for us this season and he has still got a good few months left." 

Ahui has returned to Walsall where he will complete his rehabilitation with the medical staff at Essington.

In three separate spells, Ahui scored three goals in 49 appearances for Drogheda - including once in eight games prior to his injury last term. 

The 22-year-old ruptured his ACL in June and has not featured since a 2-2 draw at Waterford when he was sent off for two bookable offences. 

No decision reached on his future yet

His loan spell at Drogheda has officially ended and his 18-month deal is due to expire at the end of the current season. 

Walsall have the option to extend by a further year, but Sadler has not yet reached a decision over whether that will be triggered.

"Nothing yet," he replied when asked about when a decision will be reached on his future. 

"We need him to finish his rehab and get back playing before then."  

Ahui started his career at Lincoln City and made just one senior appearance for the Imps. 

He has also had spells at Peterborough Sports, as well as Ayr United in the Scottish second-tier.
