Paul Lambert: Randy Lerner is backing Aston Villa vision
Paul Lambert today insisted that Villa owner Randy Lerner shares his "total belief" that the squad is good enough to compete in the Premier League.
Saturday's 1-1 draw with Lambert's former club Norwich meant Villa have now made their worst start to a league season for 43 years which added to a growing tension among supporters.
Some fans have pointed to the fact that none of the players signed by Lambert in the last transfer window came from the English top flight as a reason behind the early-season slump.
However, the Scot is confident the talent at his disposal will come good and revealed that Lerner has backed his blueprint.
"Has he (Lerner) been supportive of what we've done so far? Yes. Honestly. I really don't have one problem at all. At the end of the day, you just keep going," said the Villa boss.
"You have the belief that you will win games and I've always been like that. I'm not going to change in any shape at all. I always have belief in the team.
"There is a squad of players there I think can do it and as a club we will stick together and try and keep driving it on.
"I have total belief that they will be fine. I trust the team, I trust the players to try to go and get results.
"As long as they keep putting the effort in, and that's all you can ever ask of any individual.
"The chairman has got the club at heart. I speak with nearly all the time, have a good relationship with him, which is mutual, and he will come over in a couple of weeks' time."
