Florent Cuvelier sets his sights on a new Walsall contract
Florent Cuvelier is determined to prove his fitness throughout the remainder of the season in order to win a new contract at Walsall.
The talented Belgian, whose current deal expires in the summer, has seen his career blighted by injuries over the past three years.
Cuvelier suffered a severe knee injury while playing for Port Vale in 2014. He also broke down with a hamstring problem in a brief spell at Burton Albion.
And after rejoining the Saddlers in June, the midfielder has been hampered by an ankle knock.
But after starting back-to-back games against Oldham and Bradford, the 24-year-old says he is now determined to get his career back on track.
"It's great to be back in the team and now I want to prove my fitness and earn a new deal," the former Stoke City man said.
"It's been a frustrating, difficult time because I am desperate to play and get my career back on track. Over the last three years I went through some tough times but I know how to handle them now. And regardless of how disappointed I've felt, I've kept going. I'm determined to now have a good run of games, be successful and get back to my best."
Cuvelier admits there have been times when he contemplated giving up the game after becoming disillusioned with the injures he suffered.
And he thanked his family for the role they have played in keeping his positive.
"It's a shame when you say you are used to being injured but in some ways it helps mentally to cope with the frustration," he said.
"Now I'm so happy to be back in the team and hopefully I can stay in there.
"When you're injured it's vital you keep your dreams alive.
"My family have made a lot of sacrifices, my girlfriend does ever so much for me. She has kept me going because there were times when I felt I wanted to give up.
"I'm very grateful to have that support and the rest is self motivation.
"Now I know I will never give up because I will get back to my best."
