Mo Farah hails Stafford swimmer Tom Derbyshire

Stafford swimmer Tom Derbyshire has been hailed as one to watch as a future star – by Britain's most decorated track athlete Mo Farah.

Derbyshire, aged 18, was named among the top three young British sports stars in in the prestigious SportsAid awards in London. He was just pipped to first prize by London-based triathlete Alex Yee, 18, and Farah said: "Tom did incredibly well to make the top three."

Derbyshire, a former Royal Wolverhampton School pupil, claimed gold in the 1,500m freestyle at the European Junior Championships this year.

"To be recognised within the top three of the One-to-Watch award was a great pleasure," he said. "I was quite surprised to get in the top ten but to make in the top three was even better."
