The world number four and second seed defeated Dutch top seed and world number three Aniek van Koot to clinch her second singles title of 2016 and fourth ITF 1 Series singles crown of her career.

Whiley toughed it out in a tight first set – winning the tie-break 9-7 – before cruising through the second set 6-1 against the former world number one in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

"I'm really happy with my performance this week especially as I'm coming back from injury," said Whiley. "I've been working on some new stuff at home and this just shows its paying off! I can't wait now for South Africa in two weeks' time."

Whiley ended the event with four straight-sets wins, three of them coming against fellow world top 10-ranked players.

She led South Africa's world number eight Kgothatso Montjane 5-3 in the first set of their quarter-final before play was suspended due to heavy rain.

The British number one then came out for Saturday's penultimate day of competition to drop just one more game to Montjane before defeating Dutch world number six Marjolein Buis 6-3, 6-3 shortly afterwards.

Whiley will now prepare for the next Super Series event on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, the South African Open, which takes place in early April.
