Stour play-off hopes are hit

Stourbridge suffered a severe setback towards their play-off prospects when well beaten at bogey side Barwell.

That was after Stourbridge had made a bright start and took the lead in Leicestershire on 32 minutes.

Dangerous Matt Dodd crossed from the right and picked out Chris Lait, who in turn laid the ball back for Sean Geddes whose goalbound shot appeared to deflect home off striker Karl Hawley for his 21st goal of the term.

Barwell came back to level two minutes from half time when Stourbridge failed to clear effectively from a corner allowing Alex Tompkinson to retrieve the ball and then whip in a wind assisted cross which caught out back-pedalling Glassboys goalkeeper Charlie Price, who despite getting a hand to the ball, couldn't keep it out as it dropped perfectly into the net.

The arrival of substitute Luke Barlone at half time appeared to make all the difference as Barwell stepped up a gear.

It was Barlone who fired Barwell in front on 52 minutes when he latched onto central defender Dan Scarr's headed clearence and cleverly took the ball down before firing past Price with an impressive left foot shot.

Barwell then sealed the points on 78 minutes with a third goal.

Isaac Cooper bi-sected Stourbridge left back Brian Smikle and picked out Barlone on the edge of the penalty area, who in turn fired the ball across the face of goal where the lurking Brady Hickey applied the finishing touch when turning home from close range.
