Dean Smith: Defeat was criminal on Walsall

Manager Dean Smith admitted he felt like calling the police after Walsall's defeat against Swindon.

The Saddlers lost for the first time on their travels in League One this season with the 2-1 reverse at the County Ground tonight.

A Jonathan Obika header in the first half put the hosts ahead before Tom Bradshaw levelled the tie with his 11th goal of the campaign.

But, despite then going on to dominate the match, Louis Thompson snatched the points for the hosts with a late 20-yard drive.

Smith said: "I feel like I should be on the phone and calling the police to get someone arrested for that result.

"We dominated a team who normally dominate other teams with the ball. On the balance of play, we were excellent. I'd have been disappointed to be coming with a just a point."

Smith felt particularly aggrieved, after seeing a Jordan Cook goal wrongly ruled out for offside.

The Saddlers boss said: "We have had a stonewall penalty turned down in the first-half.

"And Jordan Cook has scored his first goal of the season. He is a yard onside but it's been flagged for offside.

"Then we go and make a mistake for their second goal. But we dominated the game and I feel sorry for the players because at times I felt they got kicked off the park.

"There were a lot of challenges going unpunished. They were trying to stop us at all costs because we were so dominant.

"But when we got back on level terms I thought only one team would win it."

Smith sprung a selection surprise before kick-off, with Cook and Anthony Forde preferred to Milan Lalkovic and Kieron Morris.

But he was happy with his selection, adding: "I wasn't tempted to make changes in the game, because we were so far on top.

"Forde has come in and he has looked really powerful and he has run at them all the time."
