Tommy Rowe backed to be perfect fit for Wolves as transfer chase hots up
Wolves were today backed as the ideal choice for Tommy Rowe after they emerged as one of the favourites for his signature.
The versatile 25-year-old, who has allowed his contract at Peterborough to expire in pursuit of Championship football or higher, has attracted the interest of four or five clubs, including one un-named Premier League outfit.
Leeds and two southern-based Championship clubs are understood to be rivalling Wolves as well as a top-flight outfit, where he may not be a regular.
Rowe isn't likely to announce where his future lies until the second or third week of June because of the intense level of interest in him and is currently on a break considering his options.
But Wolves are said to be extremely high on the list for the former Manchester United trainee and Stockport left-sided specialist who Posh turned down offers of up to £2m this time last year.
And the Manchester-born former Peterborough captain has been urged to make Molineux his destination.
"I've spoken to a lot of clubs and a helluva lot want him but of all those interested, Wolves suits Tommy," said Posh director of football Barry Fry.
"It's a magnificent club with great tradition and a great support and I'm sure everything about Wolves suits Tommy, because he has the same ambition as them in wanting to play in the Premier League.
"I think he'll have a great opportunity to do that at Wolves, which is a Premier League club playing in the Championship.
"Knowing Steve Morgan, Jez Moxey and Kenny Jackett – who has done a wonderful job - they're all aiming high and I think they will get there, with Tommy's help."
Fry believes Wolves would be getting another typical Jackett signing - under-the-radar, hardworking, low maintenance and willing to go the extra mile to improve his game.
"He doesn't fit the typical reputation of a footballer – he's a very sensible lad and Wolves get him, they'd be getting an absolute diamond," he said.
"He's the sort of lad who if your daughter took him home, you'd be happy to see her with him.
"He can play left-back, left wing-back, left midfield or central midfield and he scores a lot of goals and creates a lot of goals.
"He's been a great servant to us on and off the field."
Rowe scored 23 goals in 175 League appearances for Posh, scoring nine last season, after 75 games for Stockport.
