Sam Ricketts: Fans can lift Wolves to Premier
Captain Sam Ricketts today claimed that Wolves' fans can lift them to a promotion double.
Wolves have averaged 20,878 at home in League One, a figure bettered by only six clubs in the Championship, and more than 2,600 away, beaten in the Football League only by Leeds.
And Ricketts feels Kenny Jackett's side can push for the Premier League next season. "I think all the players think that way," he said. "That's certainly why I came here.
"This is a new era, a new squad, a new side. Next season will be incredibly tough, but promotion was part one and now we are looking for part two.
"It's going to be hard, but we're not thinking about anything apart from being the best we can be."
Ricketts is 32 but admitted it wasn't until he joined Wolves that he became aware of the size of the club.
"As an away player you get bussed into a game and you get bussed out again," he said. "You don't really realise the magnitude of the club you're playing against.
"You always know whether it's a big club or not – but then you see occasions like the end of year awards dinner, and when 5,000 away fans went to the first game of the season at Preston.
"I was thinking that was special and then we took 9,000 to MK Dons. You look at the attendances for the Carlisle and Rotherham games (29,929 and 30,110).
"With backing like that there really is no limit to how far the club can go.
"I saw the banner on the South Bank saying 'ours again' and for me, that's the biggest thing – if we can make the fans proud of us."
