Chris Powell: Wolves can smash my record

Chris Powell managed the Addicks to the League One title and a record 101 points in 2011-12.

Kenny Jackett's side – currently on 100 points– seek the win that would smash the milestone when they host Carlisle in front of an expectant 30,000 Molineux crowd.

And Powell believes the marker, his side set, couldn't go to a more deserving man than his former Millwall foe Jackett.

"Tongue in cheek I hope they lose tomorrow because I'll still have the record!" said Powell.

"But records are always there to be broken and in a way it will be good if he does it because it's someone I know, and the match between Kenny and Wolves is quite a romantic one with the history of that club.

"It will also show we did a great job and if he breaks it, he'll have done an even better one.

"We spoke on the phone a few times about players and he really knows his football and is a very good coach.

"He's a proper manager – he gets on with his players but he knows when to step away.

"He's very straightforward and I've always found him very knowledgeable and approachable.

"I knew as soon as he got the job he was the right fit and I thought straightaway he'd get Wolves into the top two."

Powell believes Jackett deserves credit for transforming his forward line in January.

"In moving four strikers on, people must have wondered where the goals were going to come from, but Nouha Dicko was always going to get goals and I know Leon Clarke from Charlton," he said.

And he reckons Jackett has proved masterful at dealing with the pressure and expectations on the club.

"Wolves are the scalp – everyone expects them to perform at home and win by three or four goals and the opposition sit deep and ask questions of you," he said. "So they have handled it superbly."
