All-time glory beckons for Wolves
Wolves' record points tally means they have joined a select club after becoming only the 10th team to reach 100 points in a league season.
Kenny Jackett's champions had already surpassed their previous record points total of 92, set as Division Three champions in 1988-89 under Graham Turner.
Victory against Carlisle at Molineux in their final game of the season tomorrow will not only eclipse Charlton's record of 101 points as the highest third-tier total ever with 103, but move them into third place on the all-time record points table, behind Reading (106) and Sunderland (105).
That Sunderland team of 1998-99 had a strong West Midlands favour, with Jody Craddock, Paul Butler, Mickey Gray and Alex Rae (Wolves), Kevin Phillips (Albion, Villa and Birmingham), Thomas Sorensen and Gavin McCann (both Villa) featuring for Peter Reid's title winners before going on to play for the region's clubs, while Birmingham manager Lee Clark was also part of that Black Cats squad.
Wolves and Championship title winners Leicester are two of six clubs to have set new club record points totals this season with Brentford, Burnley, Fleetwood Town and Leyton Orient, while Derby have so far equalled their record total set in 1985-86.
Wolves' 1-1 draw at Coventry last weekend achieved a sixth club record this season with lowest number of away goals conceded, 16.
Jackett's have already set new milestones for most points, consecutive wins (nine), clean sheets in a league season (24), most overall wins (30) and most away victories (14).
They have also equalled the fewest away defeats in a season – three – from 1923-24.
Leicester, currently on 99 points, can join Wolves in the century club with a draw or a win at home to Doncaster.
One hundred points has become a more realistic target to aim for after the introduction of three points for a win in 1981 and the first club to achieve it was York City in 1984 on their way to winning Division Four.
Fulham are the only club to have reached the milestone twice, reaching 101 points in winning the third tier in 1998-99 and then matching that in 2000-01 when claiming the second tier title.
