"SuperKev" has confirmed his appearance in the Sunderland team that will face a Wolves line-up for Jody Craddock's testimonial on a big party day at Molineux.

Craddock has pulled together the promotion teams in which he featured at both clubs to help him celebrate his distinguished career.

And the now confirmed promise of Niall Quinn and Phillips reuniting for a replay of their famed partnership has ensured plenty of Sunderland fans heading to Molineux to join the party.

Another confirmed Molineux favourite and representative of both clubs, Alex Rae, will also feature for the Black Cats along with familiar figures including ex-Villa pair Tomas Sorenson and Gavin McCann, another 'double' club man Michael Gray and ex-Albion winger Kevin Kilbane.

Craddock is still waiting to confirm his line-up complicated by so many of Mick McCarthy's old team still being involved in promotion action.

But the appearance of Phillips, who has turned down the chance to share in Leicester City's open top bus city tour to keep his promise to Craddock, is a major draw for the popular defender.

"It's all starting to come together now and I am particularly grateful to Kev and Leicester for giving him permission to miss their tour," said Craddock. "It's a great gesture from him."

The 40-year-old has featured for nine teams during a 20-year professional career, including Villa, Albion and Blues during which he became a familiar scorer against the gold and black.

But he is best noted for his time at Sunderland where the former England international was the Premier League's top goalscorer in the 1999-2000 season – the last English Golden Boot performance.

He will now hang up his boots following Championship champions Leicester's final game of the campaign against Doncaster Rovers at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

"After 20 amazing years as a professional footballer, I've decided to announce my retirement," said Phillips.

"I will play my final game for Leicester on Saturday, at our home ground, having won the Championship title - and that seems like the perfect way to bow out."

"After scoring the winner to get Crystal Palace promoted at the end of last season there were a few voices in the back of my head saying 'maybe I should retire now'.

"But I decided to continue for another season for the chance to play in the Premier League as a 40-year-old.

"I managed to do that earlier in this campaign - joining an exclusive group of three other players who have played in the Premier League as 40-year-olds - but now the time is right."
