West Brom winger Amalfitano hints at Marseille return

Albion winger Morgan Amalfitano today hinted he could return to Marseille in the summer as his Baggies future remains uncertain.

The Frenchman is on a season-long loan at The Hawthorns but the Baggies failed to activate an option to trigger a permanent deal before the deadline, meaning the 29-year-old could now move elsewhere.

He appeared to have played his last game for Marseille after a fall-out with the club.

But Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa has been tipped to take over for next season and Amalfitano has hinted he could now return to the Stade Velodrome.

In an interview in France, he said: "For me, I had not completely left Olympique Marseille.

"There were things that happened. Football is like that. It was the law of Marseille at the time.

"Today, the most important thing is that I can find a good level in a championship side.

"I am under contract with the club, so for me the future is in Marseille.

"We are preparing for everything, we must be ready for anything in football.

"Today nothing is decided, I will try to finish the season as I should, then we'll see.

"I'm under contract with Marseille. But nothing is done with the new coach so it is difficult to respond to this issue."

Amalfitano made a stunning start to his Albion career but, aside from two fine goals in recent games against Cardiff and Norwich, his form has been poor in the second half of the season.
