Birmingham reject Wolves' Marlon King raid
Wolves were today knocked back by Birmingham over an enquiry for striker Marlon King.
King is available on a free transfer, with Blues desperate to shift his £18,000-a-week wages to ease their financial crisis.
Wolves are also reported to have had a bid for Blues' £2m-rated defender Curtis Davies rejected, but sources are cool to the idea of any interest from Molineux with Norwich and an un-named Premier League club keen on him.
While there is no fee involved for King, the main stumbling to him signing for Wolves is Blues don't want to lose their 14-goal top scorer to a potential relegation rival.
But a cash bid may well tempt and it remains to be seen if Wolves return to St Andrew's offering a fee.
The news comes as Wolves boss Dean Saunders today insisted Wolves will have a 'cut-off' point after which offers won't be accepted for his players.
They have rejected a £1m bid for 11-goal top scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake – believed to be from Crystal Palace - and turned one down from an un-named Championship club for left-back Stephen Ward.
Saunders also said enquiries had been received for "four or five" other players, including Premier League interest.
Both Ebanks-Blake and Ward – fit again after missing Saturday's 2-1 defeat with a neck injury - are set to be in boss Saunders' line-up for tomorrow's trip to Leicester after which the transfer window shuts at 11pm.
But Saunders revealed they will have their own deadline so he will know those players selected are staying.
"We've had phone calls about four or five other players, and from Premier League clubs as well," he said.
"If we get a big enough bid, every single player has a price.
"At the moment, I'm not 100 per cent sure what our team is going to be tomorrow.
"But we're not going to leave ourselves open.
"We'll get to a point where we'll have to say 'no' to any offers soon.
"We're still not safe in the league."
Meanwhile, Wolves failed in their appeal against Roger Johnson's sending off.
Johnson is banned for tomorrow and the games against Derby and Leeds, with Danny Batth set to win his first Championship start.
Midfielder Jack Price and defender Michael Ihiekwe have signed new one-year deals.
