Wolves have recalled midfielder David Davis from his loan spell at Walsall for Saturday's trip to Chelsea.

The 19-year-old was expected to start in Saturday's home clash against Tranmere, but has instead been called into Mick McCarthy's squad for the clash to face the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.

Wolves activated a 24-hour recall clause in the deal, which is allowed after the first 28 days.

Homegrown Davis, who has played seven games for the Saddlers, has yet to play for Wolves' first team.

But with three central midfielders missing – Karl Henry (suspended), Adlene Guedioura (broken leg) and Michael Mancienne (ineligible) – Wolves are short of numbers and Davis could get his chance.

McCarthy confirmed: "David is back with us and will be travelling with the squad on Saturday."
