'Rest in peace Deano': Tributes pour in for driver who died after crashing into canal

This is the first picture of a man who tragically died after his car plunged into a canal in Walsall.

Two passers-by pulled 31-year-old Dean Strong out of the water after his vehicle ploughed into Walsall Canal off Darlaston Bridge Road last Thursday.

Firefighters were called to incident near Aldi in Moxley after the car travelled about 32 ft down an embankment into the water.

Mr Strong, who was from Bradley, Bilston, was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital but was pronounced dead the next day.

Fire crews from Bilston and Perry Barr were joined by a technical rescue team from Wednesbury.

High Street in Moxley was closed at its junction with Black Country New Road overnight and police investigations were continuing today.

Around 60 flower bouquets have now been placed near to where the incident happened.

A T-shirt has also been attached to some railings displaying this picture and the words 'Rest in peace Deano. Love Shaun, Donna, Sue, Barry xx'.

Dozens of message have been left with flowers at the scene along with a wreath in the shape of his name.

One of the messages from a loved one read: "To my big brother Dee Dee. I can't find the words to tell you how I feel.

"I cannot find a thought in my mind to make this all seem real.

"But if there's just one thing that I will always want you to know, I promise to love you with all my heart and I will never let you go.

"Love now and all eternity.

"Little sister Paigey xxxx."

Another message read: "Son, I promise to be there for them all. Mikee xxxx."

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call police on 101.
