Funfair rides, live demonstrations and football tournaments were among the line up for this year's Tipton Carnival.

Thousands of people travelled from across the Black Country to attend this year's event spread over three days at Jubilee Park.

Members of Tipton Community Association organise the carnival which kicked off with a car boot sale on Friday afternoon.

Saturday and Sunday brought in the crowds for the carnival's main two day festival of fun.

A fun fair was set up to entertain families who arrived on the day alongside a host of children's activities.

Entertainers from Funtime Theatre company came out to meet children, sing and plays games on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Country based group work at a range of community events for children while also visiting care homes to put on performances of 50s and 60s music.

Rachel Coleman, who runs the group with Will Phipps, said: "The crowds were really good. It seemed like a good turnout.

"We really enjoyed it. It is nice to get to come to community events like this."

Around 50 students from Tipton Tigers Martial Arts group held live demonstrations over the two days.

Hopeton 'Coach' Harmitt runs the martial arts centre, in New Road, Great Bridge, and has been attending the show for 20 years. He says the students take confidence from performing moves in front of the crowds at the carnival.

"The kids really seem to enjoy it," he said.

There was also a baby show taking place at the carnival. Among the winners was Troy Hadley who won the under six months category.

Saxon history re-enactors, Age of Penda, also held a demonstration on the day. Group members Paul and Steven Nicholls with Richard and Andy Colley came along to the event.

Walsall Coronets marching band were also among the groups to perform on Saturday.

Ward councillor Stephen Jones said: "A big thank you has to go to Tipton Community Association for the work that they do.

"It was one of the best turnouts I have seen. It goes to show how great it is when the community comes together."
