Van driver dies in crash near Shugborough Hall

A man has died after the van he was driving crashed on a busy Staffordshire route.

Off-duty emergency services staff, who were passing by, provided medical assistance before an air ambulance arrived at the scene on the A513 near the rear entrance for Shugborough Hall.

A man in his 60s died at the scene after the "slow speed" crash.

The route was closed for around four hours after the crash happened at around 7.20am today.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man had a "medical event" while driving on the road between Rugeley and Stafford.

The A513 was closed near the National Trust hall in Great Haywood while the emergency services deal with the incident.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 7.19pm to reports of a van that had left the road.

"Two ambulance, a paramedic officer and the midlands air ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

"A man has had a medical event at the wheel and paramedics are still on scene."

A Staffordshire Police spokesman has said that an investigation is underway and anyone with information or dash cam footage can contact them by calling 101, quoting incident number 93 of August 15.
