Major delays as M6 blocked by car fire
The M6 was shut by a car fire today, with delays of two hours hitting commuters.
It happened on the northbound carriageway at Junction 8 for the junction with the M5 just before 7am when two cars collided, with one catching fire.
Two lanes were blocked, and there were also of knock-on delays on the southbound section with lanes being closed.
By 8.15am, there were reports of delays of two hours back to Junction 5 for Castle Bromwich and on to the Aston Expressway in Birmingham.
Matthew Smith from West Midlands Fire Service said they had a number of 999 calls, and two cars were involved in the crash.
Firefighters left the scene at around 7.30am. Crews from Walsall, West Bromwich and Handsworth attended.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said one ambulance was sent to the fire at 6.49am and one person who was out of the car when they arrived was not injured.
All lanes have now reopened.
