Councillor Pete Lowe returns as leader of the authority after he was voted in unchallenged.

The decision of the eight UKIP councillors to abstain from the vote meant Councillor Lowe had a free pass to the leadership.

He said afterwards: "I'm really proud to continue to serve as the leader of Dudley Council.

"Being leader has always been one of the proudest moments of my life and to continue to do what we can for the residents of Dudley is an exciting opportunity."

Labour lost its majority in the council chamber at this month's local election which led to crunch talks between all three parties about the future leadership of the authority.

A UKIP/Conservative alliance had been mooted over the past week, but the proposed deal fell through at the 11th hour.
